A fantastic turnout at the Innerleithen & District Amateur Operatic Society craft fair in the Memorial Hall this morning. A very welcome cuppa on such a cold morning, and a few gifts purchased!

A very productive advice surgery at Tesco in Peebles today with Christine Grahame MSP. Some important casework to pursue, and a few lively discussions.
A major biking event is coming to Peebles next weekend helping to make the Tweed Valley one of the main cycling venues in Europe.
Sad to see that the local press have jumped the gun in reporting a planning decision before it has actually happened. The report mistakenly refers to a recommendation from officers as being the position of the council which will be “told” to the Planning committee on Monday. Cart before the horse comes to mind.

In today’s edition of The Peeblesshire News a Lib Dem Councillor Drummond Begg disingenuously claims that the Scottish Government gave permission for a new quarry near West Linton. That is totally wrong and misleading. The planning appeal was granted by the independent reporter to the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division who acts in a quasi judicial capacity. The application had previously been unanimously opposed by SBC’s planning committee, local councillors and Christine Grahame MSP. The decision was based on the reporter’s assessment, and not influenced in any way by the Scottish Government. |
